Autumn is here and there are some places that are breathtaking during this time of the year. Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of them.
Check the amount of beautiful things you can see, nature to explore, food to enjoy, and many more great adventures to do, in one of the most beautiful places in America.
Autumn Adventures in Jackson Hole
Although skiing is a major part of Jackson Hole’s attraction, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth seeing at other times of the year. In fact, many of the things that make the area so attractive, such as the majestic Teton Mountain Range or the acres of gorgeous countryside, make it a fantastic destination regardless of the season. This is especially true in the fall, when the leaves of the valley’s cottonwood and white aspen trees change from jade green to a dazzling shade of gold. From mountain biking to fine dining, there are tons of ways you can enjoy all the Jackson Hole valley has to offer.
Jackson Hole’s main attraction, regardless of the season, is its outdoor activities. There’s no better way to see the towering mountains of the Teton Range than hiking or mountain biking the region’s many trails. For a slightly different experience, you can rent an ATV or go on a horseback riding tour. You can also rent a kayak or canoe and explore the valley’s lakes and rivers, which have fun whitewater rapids for people of all skill levels.
Fall is a prime time for photographers since the autumn colors and dynamic landscape can make for some very compelling photographs. Numerous companies conduct photo tours that take you to some of the most picturesque parts of Grand Teton National Park, including Oxbow Bend, Cascade Canyon, and Signal Mountain Overlook. Some companies give workshops that allow you to improve your skills while shooting one of the prettiest regions in the country.
Restaurants & Coffee Shops
If you’ve spent all day exploring the Jackson Hole valley, you’ve probably worked up a pretty big appetite. Fortunately there’s no shortage of places to eat in Jackson, a relatively small town that boasts a surprisingly wide range of restaurants. Treat yourself to some tasty gourmet comfort food at Rendezvous Bistro, one of Jackson’s fine dining restaurants. If Italian food sounds more appetizing, you should check out Nani’s Cucina Italiana, which serves focaccia flatbreads, soups, salads, and handmade pastas.
Coffee and tea drinkers will find plenty to like about Jackson Hole’s cafes. Three shops, Jackson Hole Roasters and Pearl Street Bagels, are located within walking distance of downtown Jackson. Each of these cafes offer something a little different. For example, Jackson Hole Roaster sells whole bean international coffees, as well as pastries, sandwiches, soups, and desserts. If you drive a few minutes west on Highway 191 you’ll find Café Boheme, a French style café that brews organic coffees and has salads, soups, crepes, and sandwiches for hungry patrons.
Breweries & Winery
For some, there’s nothing more refreshing than a cold beer or a glass of wine after a long day trekking through the countryside. Perhaps it’s appropriate that a place as distinctive as Jackson Hole is home to two independent brewers, Roadhouse Brewing Company and Snake River Brewing. Roadhouse, which opened last May, features its own brews along with a large selection of wines and cocktails. Meanwhile, Snake River offers a stunning selection of more than 45 beers, including the award-winning Zonker Stout, Indian Paintbrush Pilsner, and Custer’s Last Ale. Both breweries have extensive food menus that feature tasty finger foods, such as pub fries, as well as pizzas and burgers.
Don’t worry, oenophiles. The Jackson Hole Winery has you covered. The winery, which is family-owned and operated, produces a chardonnay, a zinfandel, and two cabernets. Since Jackson Hole’s climate isn’t suited to growing grapes, the winery imports them from Sonoma and Napa Valley. While you’re in Jackson Hole you can buy a bottle at various liquor stores or order a glass at some of the town’s prominent restaurants, including Nani’s Cucina Italiana and Rendezvous Bistro.
Jackson Hole hosts numerous events in the fall that are worth going to. You can see a full list of these events at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s website.
